Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday reiterated his demand to replace Punjab’s chief of police and general counsel.
The development comes three days after Sidhu and Chief Minister Channi held a meeting, following which it was decided to set up a coordination group for prior consultation on all important decisions of the government of the State.
His tweet urging the government led by Charanjit Singh Channi to change police chiefs and state attorneys general seems to indicate that he remains unhappy with some key appointments.
“The demand for justice in cases of sacrilege and the arrest of the main culprits of drug trafficking brought our government to 2017 and due to its failure, People suppressed the last CM. Now the AG / CEO appointments are rubbing salt on the wounds of the victims, they must be replaced or we will not have a face !! Sidhu said in a tweet on Sunday.
An annoyed Sidhu, who had resigned his post as chief of the Punjab Congress a few days ago, had raised a question about the appointments of the director general of police, state attorney general and “corrupt leaders” “.
Sidhu has called for the dismissal of the senior IPS officer, Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, who has been given the additional post of director general of the Punjab police.
Sahota remained as the head of a Special Investigative Team (SIT) formed in 2015 by the then Akali government to investigate incidents of sacrilege.
The cricketer-turned-politician is also raising questions about AS Deol’s appointment as the new state attorney general.
Deol was the lawyer for former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini in 2015 after incidents of sacrilegious police shooting.
Sidhu had said on Saturday that he would stand alongside Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi whether or not he held a post.
“Will defend the principles of Gandhi Ji & Shastri Ji… Post or No Post will stand alongside @RahulGandhi & @priyankagandhi! May all the negative forces try to defeat me, but with every ounce of positive energy, Punjab will win, Punjabiyat (Universal Brotherhood) will win and every Punjabi will win !! “, Sidhu Sidhu tweeted on birthdays of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on Saturday.
Sidhu’s abrupt resignation sparked further unrest in the Punjabi Congress.
Congress had replaced Amarinder Singh as Chief Minister of the Punjab with Charanjit Singh Channi following a bitter power struggle between Sidhu and Amarinder.
